Simultaneous

Simultaneous interpretation is typically used for conventions, conferences and those events in general where the audience does not speak the same language as the speaker or where there are speakers of various languages and a “linguistically heterogeneous” audience. The interpreter is sat in a soundproof booth and, using headphones and a microphone, provides the audience with simultaneous translation. The audience follows the speech through appropriate receivers tuned to the channel assigned to their language. Booths must be provided for each linguistic combination required. At least two professional interpreters must be present in each cabin so that they can take turns at the microphone for set periods of time, depending on the programme and the complexity of the subjects being dealt with.
